California Pair Allegedly Conned Elderly Woman in a Financial Elder Abuse Case

California Pair Allegedly Conned Elderly Woman in a Financial Elder Abuse Case

A California duo allegedly committed financial elder abuse by swindling an elderly mentally ill woman out of thousands of dollars. The defendants are a couple who reside in Riverside County. They allegedly befriended the elderly mentally ill woman and talked her into giving them money and goods. California elder abuse attorneys remind senior citizens that strangers who suddenly take an interest in your finances are not to be trusted.

The defendants in this case were arrested at their Lake Elsinore home. At the home, Ontario police found large quantities of furniture. The furniture was allegedly purchased with the senior citizens credit cards. Detectives claim that the couple convinced the senior citizen victim to open several credit card accounts, which were used to purchase the furniture. The furniture purchases added up to more than $36,000 dollars. California elder abuse attorneys say that families should keep an eye on senior family members to make sure they are not being conned.

In this case, the defendants allegedly also persuaded the senior citizen victim to withdraw $10,000 from her bank account. The elderly victim gave the money to the defendants and one of them allegedly spent the money at a Los Angeles area casino. The defendants were booked on suspicion of burglary, grand theft, financial elder abuse, and other felonies. Police are concerned that the defendants may have defrauded other elderly victims. California elder abuse attorneys say that financial elder abuse is on the rise nationwide.

How To Gauge The Volatility Of A Stock Market Investment

How To Gauge The Volatility Of A Stock Market Investment

Do Your Research
You can find a great deal of information in the stock tables of your local newspaper, or your favorite financial industry publication. Those stock tables contain a wealth of information you can use to gauge the volatility of a stock market investment. Turn to the stock table in your favorite financial publication. Locate the 52-week high and low for each stock you plan to invest in.

Compare the 52-week high for the stock to the 52-week low. The difference between the 52-week high and the low is a good indicator of how volatile the stock has been over the last year, and how volatile it is likely to be in the future.

Contact the Company
Contact the investor relations department at each company and request a copy of the annual report. Some companies publish these reports online, so you might be able to find past annual reports on the company’s website. If not, check the website and find the contact information for the investor relations department.

Review the price history of the stock as shown in the annual report. A wide spread between the annual highs and lows for the stock is an indication of a highly volatile stock. A company whose share price has been more consistent has shown far less volatility.

Practice on Paper
Create a paper portfolio and track your stocks over a period of several months. List each stock on a separate line and list the daily or weekly price in each column. Tracking the stock price over time will give you a good indication of how volatile the stock is.

While nothing can totally eliminate the inherent volatility of investing in the stock market, there are a number of strategies you can use to reduce the risks of the stock market and increase your odds of finding a winning investment.

Qualifying A Legitimate Fundraising Company

Qualifying A Legitimate Fundraising Company

You have been put in charge of running a fundraiser. There are so many considerations that just the thought of fundraising can make you frustrated! What time of year should you do it? What should you sell? How do you run this campaign? There are a lot of different professional fundraising companies out there looking to help you. How do you pick the right one? Here are a few tips and questions to keep in mind when your hunting around:

How long have they been in business? Its the same with any new business you investigate. Have they been around long enough that theyre going to be able to take care of you? If theyve been around awhile they can anticipate your needs and give you some valuable guidance.

Check for references. Will the company give some references of businesses or schools that have used them? Will anybody vouch for them? Are they a member of the Association of Fund-Raising Distributors & Suppliers?

Do they know your state laws for fundraising? Will your potential fundraising company be able to give you specifics on how to declare your taxes? This is important because each state has differences in tax collection. Some states declare that product fundraising is exempt from tax, while in other states these monies are taxable.

How responsive are they? Do they seem reachable if you have a problem? What if something is shipped incorrectly or broken? Do you have to wait days for a response? Can you reach them multiple ways is you need it through a toll free number and email address?

Are they selling a quality product? Its going to be pretty tough trying to sell broken lollipops as a fundraising campaign. Are the products the fundraising company selling going to get much attention from your donors? You get to pick what youre campaign will sell but do they have a catalogue with great options or a limited choice of average items?

Since all fundraising is important, the fundraising company needs provide a solid no hassle service. In the upcoming years, with a pending downturn in the economy and slashing of funding, fundraising companies are going to become increasingly more important for their services.

Businesses and organizations are going to lean heavily on fundraising to supplement their annual budgets in the coming years. The fundraising company you choose, you probably will partner with for several campaigns. Its important you feel they are listening to your needs and a dependable bond will develop between you.

Tips On How To Start An Investment Club

Tips On How To Start An Investment Club

Investment club is formed by a group of people who pool their money for joint investments. If you are a new to investing in stock market and have limited funds, starting an investment club is a great way to learn from other investors and get hands on experience in investing.

Here are some tips to starting an investment club.

1. Make sure all members understand the risks of investing. Many people who invest think they are going to be very successful, and are not prepared to lose all of their money. Unfortunately, there are no guarantees when it comes to the stock market. No one should invest money they are not willing to lose.

2. Find the right people who share the same investment objectives and goals. It is easier to get along with right minded people and learn from each other.

3. Make sure all club members agree to the partnership agreement and any other rules.

4. Join the National Association of Investors Corporation (NAIC) that provides support, information and tools on starting an investment club and investing, and publishes a monthly investor-learning magazine.

5. All members must agree to make a monthly contribution. The typical range of contribution is $20 to $100 a month. Members who contribute more than the required contribution are allowed greater share of profits.

6. Decide on how to meet and the frequency of meetings. For the initial setting up of the club, it may be best for everyone to meet in person. If all meetings are held online, it may be good to meet in person once or twice a year for social interaction. To keep up to date, it is recommended to meet 1-2 times a month.

7. Start with a small number of people. It is easier to come to an agreement when there are fewer members. When the club is established and all formal procedures are in place, new members can be invited to join.

8. Education is the main goal of an investment club. An investment club made up of educated investors will be more successful and cohesive than an investment club which is solely focused on making a profit.

9. Every investment club must have a well-defined investment style or investment philosophy. There must be clear selection criteria such as what type of stocks to invest, the acceptable risk tolerance level and rate of return. All club members should be aware of and agree to the investment style of the club.

Starting and running an investment club is an invaluable learning experience, where you can leverage on the expertise and knowledge of other investors. Investment clubs facilitate the exchange of ideas and collective decisions that are likely to produce sustainable returns.

Great Small Business Event Marketing

Great Small Business Event Marketing

For more going on fifteen years, I have been helping business owners and organizations hold events. The events ranged from races, to fairs, to concerts and dinners. Though the attendance varied greatly between them, the goals of management were often met and exceeded.

Events are the best way to:

get prospects to visit your store for the first time

build upon existing relationships with customers and vendors

grow existing lines of revenue

rally and motivate workforce and volunteers

expand branding

grow online presence and position

have a great time!

Events are very community oriented, and driven by the same. Bringing people together creates buzz.

There are three major areas of an event: event marketing (getting the brand out), event management (making sure the day is planned well and executed successfully), and event planning (getting all the details together to meet the event vision). Working together, these three items, thought out and coordinated, make great events.

I am often asked questions related to any of these three items. The questions I hear range from band and entertainment to how to use Facebook. Small businesses can do a lot with a little encouragement and direction. They can go really far with a little help from someone in the event industry. Small businesses and Organizations have a lot of gusto. They are ready to go all the time. And when they can see that something will get them further, they often grab the opportunity.

Small businesses are flexible. They can have a simple, low cost event marketing schedule coordinated with other ongoing marketing. Pairing an event with current expenditures creates broad public awareness. With current promotions are paired with a chance to experience a business or product, customers have incentive to participate.

I have often seen this occur. In one case, a restaurant advertised their foods as well as an evening with live music. Some monies from the night would be donated to the city fireworks fund. This night brought some business and money for community fireworks. The result was the night of the fireworks show, the restaurant was full to the brim. They had one of their best nights ever.

The power of small business event marketing is understated. Giving customers a reason to experience a small business in the form of a party invitation has leverage. As a small business owner, having an event can be fun, rewarding, and valuable to sales overall.
